CenterPoint Energy offers residential high-efficiency heating system and water heater rebates to Minnesota customers. These systems can greatly enhance savings and performance in residences which install high efficiency equipment. All equipment requirements must be met in order to receive rebate. Rebate forms must be turned in by Dec 30th, 2011. See program web site and application forms for other program details.

Dakota Electric Association provides incentives for its residential customers to install energy efficient equipment in their homes. Rebates are available for a variety of products including:
  • dishwashers
  • clothes washers
  • refrigerators/freezers
  • dehumidifiers
  • heat pumps (air-source and geothermal)
  • air conditioners (central and room unit)
  • electric water heaters
  • CFL bulbs/light fixtures
Limited rebate funds are available, and rebates are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some incentives vary by the efficiency of the purchased equipment. Detailed program requirements and applications may be found on the web site listed above.

Elk River Municipal Utilities provides rebates to their residential electric customers who purchase and install Energy Star rated appliances. Eligible equipment includes:
  • Central A/C
  • Window unit A/C
  • Air-Source and geothermal heat pumps
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Dishwashers
  • Clothes washers
  • Refrigerators
  • Water Heaters
In order to receive rebates for appliances, rebate application must be jointly filled out with appliance dealer. Installation of central A/C and heat pumps must be done by a pre-approved HVAC-certified contractor.

In addition to appliance rebate opportunities, Elk River Municipal Utilities also offers reimbursement for A/C tune-ups conducted by HVAC contractors. More information, including rebate applications and a list of pre-approved contractors, may be found at the website listed above.

Minnesota Energy Resources provides rebates to their residential customers for the purchase of energy efficient natural gas equipment and set-back thermostats. Rebates are available for furnaces, boilers, integrated space and water heating systems, programmable thermostats, water heaters (tank and tankless), clothes washers, and drain water heat recovery devices. All equipment must meet certain efficiency standards listed on the program website. Purchases qualify for both new homes and renovations. The rebate application can be downloaded from the program website. Applications are processed on a first- come, first-served basis until funds are depleted.

Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative offers low-interest loans to help its residential customers finance energy efficiency improvements through their Energy Conservation Loan Program. ERC Loans can be used for:
  • Caulking
  • Weather stripping
  • Heat pumps and electric water heaters
  • Heat pump installations
  • Electric water heaters
  • Insulation for ceilings, walls, floors, ducts, pipes and water heaters
  • Thermal windows
  • Storm or thermal doors
  • Clock thermostats
  • Ventilation fans
ERC loans are available only for replacement items, not for new homes. Loans can be for up to $1,500 if they are used for air-source heat pumps, or $3,000 if the customer is installing a ground-source heat pump. Loan applications can be accessed from the website listed above.

Stearns Electric Association, through a program offered by Rural Utilities Services, offers its members low-interest Energy Resource Conservation (ERC) loans. The complete cost of making approved energy conservation improvements may be eligible for financing with an ERC loan at 5% interest. Up to $3,000 for qualifying improvements to homes, businesses, or agricultural buildings at least one year old. The maximum repayment schedule is set at 60 months on a $3,000 loan. Financed improvements to a residence must meet the criteria as outlined by the ERC loan program guidelines. Related costs for materials, equipment, and labor (if done by a contractor) are all eligible for financing. This includes the expenses for electrical wiring, the heating equipment, and/or duct work. A list of eligible measures can be found on the program application form located on the program website.

When applications are completed, return them to the St. Cloud office.

Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Energy Association offers energy resource conservation financing for their residential and business customers. Loans can be for up to seven years on a fixed rate. Contact Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Energy Association for the current interest rate. Loans will be repaid through customer utility bills. Loans can cover the cost of labor and materials for the following energy efficient measures:

  • HVAC system replacements or modifications which reduce energy consumption
  • New heat pump systems

    In addition to home energy audits, Xcel Energy offers rebates to its Minnesota residential customers for the purchase of energy efficient heating and cooling systems. Residential customers may also qualify for the Home Performance Rebate program.

    Xcel Energy also offers the residential Saver's Switch program. Residents receive a bill credit during the summer months in exchange for agreeing to have their air conditioning systems cycled on and off during peak energy demand periods. Residents can also receive audits at 70% less than market value to help them determine the right energy-savings improvements for their homes. In addition, the HomeSmart program provides appliance repair, preventive maintenance and replacement helper coverage available even outside of Xcel's territory.
